Available for the first time in book form, Brothers of New Essex collects original art from the author's self-published, popular erotic zine, Belasco. Comprised of over ten years of illustrations, this sexually explicit graphic novel explores black gay sex life - from basketball courts to house parties, from Sunday church service to the corner bar - in the tradition of gay art icon Tom of Finland. Not since Tom of Finland has a gay erotic artist created a visual world so entirely his own as Belasco's.
His new collection of sex cartoons, The Brothers Of New Essex, is chock a block full of all sorts of black folk — from country bumpkins to b-boys and buppies — partaking the joys of corn-holing, cum-spurting, hold-me-down sex. There are all these other levels of gay erotica. A gospel singer hits the high notes at the same time as the sweaty blasphemers.

Belasco is someone whom I have admired for several years, and who is a constant source of inspiration on my own black male art. I immediately fell in love with his style and skills as a story teller. Begging him to do this interview seemed to be an ideal way to get to know this creator a little bit better.
